The amount of water you should drink for children

All we know is very good for children to drink water , but some do not ask because I still do not speak and do not know how, especially the babies . How much water do children need? It is very important for parents to be vigilant to meet demand and that children are well hydrated , since by their movements, children lose a lot of water during the day.

Why is water important for children

Through the sweat , the urine or breath, adults lose about 2.5 liters of water. The body needs to replenish this loss of fluid and, although the food provides about a third of the water lost, adults should drink a liter and a half to two liters of water a day, but how much water we should drink our children?

The child’s body is composed of a 80 percent water, whereas that of an adult is made up of water in a 65 percent. Therefore, children require more parts water. In general, during the first months of life and during lactation , it is not necessary to drink water to the infant, except in special situations, as in summer heat, fever or diarrhea .

To be well hydrated, you have to accustom children to drink water and this good habit is part of the educational process aimed at pampering. Water helps cleanse the body of toxins and elements to be ejected. It also serves to enhance the metabolism of food and it is important to avoid constipation . It is therefore important to introduce kids to drink water, even if not thirsty. The water take children should be at room temperature and not too cold, because it can cause bloating.

Diarrhea Treatment

- For babies

Self in infants can not do much to save diarrhea alert when your baby loses a lot and not to drink water. In case of diarrhea is therefore advisable to contact the pediatrician if the diarrhea stops within two power supplies. There are different possible treatments.

In this case you can simply continue breastfeeding the baby but try to give some water between the different power supplies.

Rules Giving Water to Baby

Experts agree that giving water to babies is unnecessary – and may even be harmful – before the age of 6 months. But for babies older than 6 months, medical advice is a bit more divided. The USDA recommends discussing the introduction of the water with the pediatrician the baby.

The Department of Health recommends that parents give children anything other than milk for the first 6 months, but advises that water may be given with solids once baby reaches 6 months of age. (more…)
