How to Budget for Kids Clothes
Each season you will need to buy new clothes for your kids. If you want to accurately budget for them, you will need to know exactly what your kids will need for the next season in case you come across a great sale. At the start of each season, inventory your kids clothes and give away or donate whatever they have outgrown. Any clothing in good condition could also be sold.
Make a list of all the kids clothes you will need to buy for the next season including clothes they will need for school, for play, and for special occasions. Don’ forget underwear and socks and coats and shoes. Keep the list with you, especially if you have more than one child. You can pick up basics if you’re out and come across some bargains.
For older kids, ask them what their preferences are, keeping the right to veto anything unacceptable or too expensive. If you go shopping for kids clothes with your kids, it’s an ideal time to help them understand how to budget money. Explain what you are willing to spend and see if they can buy the clothing on the list while staying within the budget. Explain to them that they could check second hand stores or online auctions to get better prices. They may start taking better care of their clothes once they see what the clothes really cost.
