Baby’s Eyes

First eye exam took place in a room with children newly born. Pediatricians follow up tests to check for infections or structural problems with the eyes: eyelid defects, cataracts, , or other abnormalities. When babies aged 6 months, your doctor should check your baby’s eyes and the alignment of visual fixation (how to focus your view).
Your child’s doctor can treat eye problems such as a single bloodshot eyes (conjunctivitis). If you or your doctor believe that your baby has a serious eye problems, which may require medical or surgical treatment, the infant should be referred to an ophthalmologist. No child is too young for a thorough eye examination.
Infant eye examination by a physician similar to that performed on adults. The doctor evaluates medical history, vision, muscles and structures of the baby’s eyes.
The doctor evaluates your baby’s vision through the following observation: the baby reacts to the light that shines in your eyes? Look at the baby’s face or to follow the movement of a toy? other vision tests are more sophisticated, can be used if necessary.
Molasses is used to dilate pupils temporarily for a more detailed examination of the eye. Drops can take 30-90 minutes to become effective. Then, the eye doctor uses a tool to check the baby’s eyes and know if there is such myopic refractive errors, or astigmatism.
Most of astigmatic children at birth, but usually not as long as they need glasses. However, babies, even newborns can wear glasses if necessary.
Finally, the eye doctor uses a lighted magnifying instrument (oftalmosopio) to look into his eyes.
